Your local office for the aging and police department can help you make your dwelling secure. They have publications, education and referral to local crime prevention efforts.
Crime Victims Protection
Personal property lost or destroyed during a crime can be reimbursed if it is necessary to maintain a victim's health and welfare (call 1-800-342-9871 or visit the Crime Victims Board

Elder Abuse Prevention
Sadly, many elders become victims of physical, emotional or sexual abuse; financial exploitation; neglect, self-neglect or abandonment. However, there is help to both prevent abuse and to assist the victim should it occur. The New York State Office for the Aging works with local office for the aging and other state and local agencies to educate elders and their families in preventing elder abuse, neglect and exploitation.
