Eat a healthy diet for the nutrition your body needs to stay well!

"Eating well" is no secret, and we offer informative articles and links, and more for healthy and enjoyable eating.

Many older people have trouble eating well. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration gives some of the reasons why and ideas on what you can do about it. Read the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's “Eating Well As We Age”(External Link)

The DASH eating pattern (formerly known as the "DASH Diet") has been shown to substantially lower blood pressure without weight loss or reduced sodium intake. DASH stands for "Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension." Recently, another landmark study -- "DASH-Sodium" -- has shown that a combination of the DASH diet and sodium reduction can lower blood pressure even more. A site of the National Institute of Health's National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), WIN offers information on nutrition and weight-control(External Link) including dieting and how to choose a safe and successful weight-loss program.

The Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP)(External Link) can help! Having trouble putting food on the table? NOEP helps link people with ways to stretch their food dollars, such as food stamps.

The Nutrition Consortium of NYS(External Link) is charged with alleviating hunger in NYS. Hunger is a real problem in every community in New York State. Food pantries and soup kitchens across the state are experiencing record demands. Hunger affects people of all ages, from children who come to school each day with empty stomachs, to seniors who struggle to afford food on fixed incomes.
