Regional Happenings

We have developed a map showing which NYS counties are involved in planning activities to address the housing, transportation, and service needs of the aging population. Additionally, you can view a map showing which NYS counties have already begun to implement some of these services. You can see that most of the state is already empowering communities to prepare for aging in the community on our combined planning and implementation map.

Following the November 2008 Empowering Communities for Successful Aging Conference, NYSOFA hosted conference calls with those individuals who identified themselves as willing to be leaders/liaisons and those willing to host a training in their region. The calls took place on 2/24/09 and 2/26/09, and there were approximately 50 people on each call representing regions across the state. You can review a summary of the conference calls.

In order to organize our ongoing work we divided the state into regions. Regional Map Use these links for each region to find out what is happening in your community:

New York City:  Bronx, Queens, Kings, Richmond, New York

Long Island:  Nassau, Suffolk

Mid-Hudson Region:  Dutchess, Sullivan, Orange, Ulster, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland

Capital Region:  Albany, Saratoga, Columbia, Schenectady, Greene, Warren, Rensselaer, Washington

Mohawk Valley:  Fulton, Montgomery, Hamilton, Oneida, Herkimer, Schoharie
