- Allegany County
- Allegany County Community Partnership on Aging hosts its 6th Annual Aging Conference entitled, "Dynamic Aging," on May 27, 2010 at Alfred State College. Conference themes are: Striving for healthier aging in response to the needs of rural communities' seniors, Motivating key stakeholders to embrace livable communities for improved quality of life, and Uniting to create a stronger voice for aging services. Pre-Registration is required by May 14, 2010.
- The Allegany County Office for the Aging received a grant from AARP to work on universal design initiatives
- Allegany County completed a Nurturing Livable Communities Community Assessment Survey and a Strategic Plan for Nurturing Livable Communities
- Allegany/Western Steuben Rural Health Network, Inc. NYSOFA grantee -The Allegany/Western Steuben Rural Health Network facilitates the Allegany County Community Partnerships on Aging, a collaboration of health and human services organizations, governmental agencies, community and civic leaders, hospitals, older adults and other community members, that has carried out a comprehensive planning process to promote senior wellbeing, maximize independence, and improve the aging delivery system.

- Mini rural aging summit
expanding on the work that was done at Ithaca College in the Fall of 2007
. May 20 at SUNY Fredonia. They already have a task force working on health
care workforce and transportation.

- Erie County
- The Western New York Falls Prevention Consortium, supported by the
Community Health Foundation of Western and Central New York (CHFWCNY), has released its
summary of results from walkability studies
conducted at 14 sites across the City of Buffalo and Erie County on September 22, 2009. - Canopy of Neighbors, Inc Beacon Hill type model developing in Buffalo.

- Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities Demonstration of Greater Buffalo – Jewish Family Services of Buffalo (federal grant)

Creating Options for Dignified Aging in
Erie & Niagara Counties -
A locally driven elder-centered strategy that’s based on in-depth research on demographics and the specific needs and wants of elders, caregivers and service providers. A blueprint of community-based models and strategies to reinvent long-term supports for the elderly was formulated. These reinventions include initiatives to improve transitions of care, expand affordable and accessible housing, assure an adequate healthcare paraprofessional workforce, develop neighborhood-based care systems and shift policy to promote an elderly individual’s right to prudent, informed self-determination. - Rural Transit Service (RTS)
A non-profit transportation service to provide transportation to senior citizens, low/moderate income individuals and disabled clients. Funded in part through the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development, Erie County Community Development Block Grant Consortium, In cooperation with the towns of: Aurora, Boston, Brant, Clarence, Colden, Collins, Concord, Eden, Elma, Evans, Gowanda, Holland, Marilla, Newstead, North Collins, Orchard Park, Sardinia and Wales.
- A Survey conducted in 2008 shows that the vast
majority of Erie County residents over the age of 50 intend to stay where they are over
the next few years
and, in many cases, beyond.

- Niagara NY Connects is working with the Local Housing Consortium to develop livable communities that will accommodate the growing elder population and individuals of all ages with disabilities.
