- Orange
- The Town of Montgomery Senior Independence Project, the Town of Newburgh Friends of Seniors and the Otisville Hometown Helpers make it possible for the elderly to remain in their own homes and live independently as long as possible, by providing volunteer help to provide transportation to doctors appointments, for shopping, hairdressers, the library, the pharmacy and wherever when possible, a senior requests. These programs are a cooperative venture between the three town or village boards, the Orange County Office for the Aging, and the Jewish Family Service Friendly Visitor Program. RSVP volunteers also make friendly visits, assist with household chores, perform outdoor chores such as raking leaves or shoveling snow, assist with paying bills or other paperwork, or do the shopping for the older adults. The towns recruit the volunteers and match volunteer with "neighbor," and follow-up on the service provided.
